CALPINE'S FINANCIAL WOES

Recently, Calpine's credit rating was slam-dunked to "junk bond" status. Thus, they have had to scale back power plant developments and even more drastically, had to place gas reserves as collateral in order to raise cash.

Just last week, a class action suit was filed by investors against Calpine. Furthermore, Governor Davis has hopped on the wagon against Calpine by demanding that long-term contracts must be renegotiated. Those Calpine contracts have been termed the "fleecing of California" and are at issue in a claim before the FERC (federal regulatory commission). Clearly, monetary subsidies drive Calpine's plans to industrialize the Medicine Lake Highlands.
