Working
with the First Peoples
Since its inception
in 1988, the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center has been committed
to working on sacred lands issues in close cooperation with the
five Tribes surrounding Mount Shasta and other more distant Tribes,
represented by the Native Coalition for Cultural Restoration of
Mount Shasta and Medicine Lake Highlands Defense.
Together with
the Native Coalition, we have cooperated in finding pro bono attorneys
to represent our mutual interests in the Save Mount Shasta and Save
Medicine Lake Highlands issues, in giving input in numerous forums
and processes, and in working with historic preservation agencies
to obtain two Traditional Cultural Districts totalling more than
26 square miles.
